Sharan and Jatty

I painted Sharan & Jatty’s beautiful Anand Karaj wedding ceremony at Southal’s Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha on Havlock Road. To create the textures of the walls, I ran a palette knife over the canvas, adding and scraping-off paint. This process is quite time-consuming, as the layer beneath needs to be dry for the effect that I was trying to achieve, but I think it gives the picture a dynamism that block colour just doesn’t. I used Artist licence and added a subtle Khanda (Sikh symbol ) there. I took this piece back to the studio to work though this process and, of course, add the embroidered detail of her gorgeous dress.
